Halifax Ashtanga Yoga Shala

Hung-Yeh Peisinger - Yoga teacher

- Hung-Yeh was born in Taipei on March 14th, 1959. At the age of four, along with her parents, she made the journey from Taiwan to live in Germany. She spent her student years in Cologne, and graduated from the Albertus Magnus Universität, Köln. It was at the age of 19 that she began to connect to Buddhist meditation practice. She knew intuitively that she needed to work with her mind in order to discover a place of unconditional peace and confidence.

Hung-Yeh started her training in classical homeopathy in 1992, and has had a full-time practice since 1997. Through homeopathy, she provides alternative and holistic care for many health-related conditions affecting adults, teenagers and children. One of the great joys in Hung-Yeh’s life is the Argentine Tango. In order to become a more fluid and expressive dancer, she signed up for yoga. She soon discovered its profound effects: “I knew after my first class that yoga would be a lifelong love affair for me.”

Hung-Yeh started her yoga teacher training in 2008 with the Therapeutic Approach Yoga Studio in Halifax. She is drawn to Ashtanga because the traditional sequence and precise coordination of breath, vinyasa, and drishti allow for an integration of breath, body, and mind. “I am able to surrender into a rhythm that is graceful, meditative and powerful. And let’s not forget--it’s also fun!”

The early-morning Mysore practice has become a cornerstone in Hung-Yeh’s life. Through her yoga practice, Hung-Yeh experiences well-being, and deep alignment within herself. Her fabulous yoga friends and teachers are essential supports to her practice. For Hung-Yeh, teaching Yoga integrates three essential gifts in her life: healing, movement and teaching. “When my life becomes chaotic, speedy, overwhelming--my yoga practice has a grounding and calming effect. I slow down, I breathe, and life seems suddenly more manageable and enjoyable.”

“I look forward to meeting you at The Shala!”
