— Angie discovered Ashtanga when she was looking for a way to reduce stress while completing her Ph.D. in Psychology at UBC in Vancouver. Since then, she has been hooked on this incredibly dynamic, invigorating and healing practice for the mind, body, and spirit. “I loved it immediately because it helps to quiet my busy mind. My work is all about thinking and I can shut that off with Ashtanga.“Angie has been a devoted student of Ashtanga since 1998. She has trained with senior teachers from Canada and the US, most notably Darby and Hart Lazer. She has also traveled to Mysore, India to study with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and his grandson Sharath.
Angie’s approach to teaching involves challenging students with the flow of the Ashtanga practice, while also incorporating principles of alignment, body awareness, mindfulness and humour. She strives to make this method accessible to everyone, so individuals at all levels can experience the powerful benefits of the practice. “I’m a teacher by nature. When I learn something and I’m excited about it, my natural tendency is to want to share it.”
Along with teaching Yoga, Angie is a professor of psychology at Mount Saint Vincent University. Originally from PEI, she has lived in Halifax for the last ten years. With a time-consuming career, Angie spends the little free time she has practicing yoga and is thrilled and proud to be a part of the Ashtanga Yoga Shala.
