Just getting started with yoga? We’ve introduced hundreds of people to the many rewards of yoga practice and are excited to do the same for you. Yoga makes your body and mind feel fantastic, so we just know you're going to love it. Together, we'll help you move forward - no matter where you are on your mat.
Things to know for your first class
- You don't need to be flexible to practice yoga. Yoga is for everyone and is an excellent way to improve your strength, flexibility and well-being.
- Ashtanga yoga is challenging and fun, but don’t feel as though you have to rush your progress. Begin with what you can do comfortably and let the practice evolve naturally.
- We recommend bringing your own yoga mat to class; however, we do have rental mats for $2 should you need one. It is worth investing in your own yoga mat (preferably one with a bit of support), even if you’re practicing for the first time.
- Wear comfortable yet fitted clothing that will not get in your way (too loose) or restrict you (too snug).
- We practice in our bare feet, so you can remove your shoes at the door.
- We promote a fragrance-free environment.
- We respect all students and will not disturb your class in progress by admitting a late arrival.
- Yoga is best practiced on an empty stomach, allowing one to three hours between your last meal and your class (unless a specific condition prevents this).
- Proper hydration is very important, especially in a warm room. Traditionally no water is drunk during the Ashtanga practice. Come well hydrated and be sure to drink plenty 30 minutes afterwards.
- If you have any health concerns (pregnancy, illness, injury or medical condition), notify your teacher before the class as he or she may make modifications for you. Not every pose is appropriate for everyone.
- Don't stress out about yoga. Relax and enjoy the time you're making for yourself!!
